An uproar among students of Aduwawa Secondary School, Benin City, Edo State, caused by displeasure over disciplinary measures taken by a female teacher in the school against some female students, has been quelled by police operatives in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, in a statement on Friday, assured the public, particularly parents and guardians of the children/wards of the school that there is no cause for alarm, as normalcy has been restored.
The statement signed by the Command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, noted that the unrest was perpetrated by some students of the school, on Thursday, 24 November, 2022.
He added that the renegade students eventually assaulted that female teacher during the uproar.
According to the statement, preliminary investigation indicated that “the students were dissatisfied with disciplinary measures being taken by a female teacher in the school against some female students during an English language class.
“Two female students identified as the prime suspects in the assault on the teacher and the eventual uproar in the school have been detained and efforts to arrest other fleeing suspects is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, CP Dankwara has advised parents and guardians of the fleeing students to submit their children/wards who were involved in the agitation.
He also directed the Divisional Police Officer Aduwawa Division, to transfer the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department Benin, after the preliminary investigation for further Investigation.
