Nigerians React As Dbanj Is Arrested And Detained For Fraud

Posted by Thandiubani on Wed 07th Dec, 2022 - tori.ng

D’banj was arrested on Tuesday after ICPC operatives closed in on him, and forced him to surrender himself at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Nigerians have taken to social media to react to news of the arrest and detention of Nigerian singer, Oladapo Oyebanji, aka D’banj.

We had reported that the singer was arrested and detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission, (ICPC) on Tuesday over alleged fraud.

According to Premium Times, The singer’s arrest came several weeks after he failed to appear for interrogations by the agency over fraud allegations.

The agency accused the pop star of fraudulently diverting hundreds of millions of naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for the N-Power project, an empowerment program set up by the Nigerian government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.

It was gathered that D’banj allegedly connived with some government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme and stipends paid to those beneficiaries are then paid to accounts that have now allegedly been linked to the pop star.

On arrival at the Commission’s headquarters on Tuesday, D’banj was subjected to a prolonged interrogation session after which he was detained.

He was also denied administrative bail, as the agency feels the musician could not be trusted to attend his trial if released on bail.

Following the development, some Nigerians have taken to social media to express their opinion on the arrest of the Nigerian singer and songwriter.

See some of the reactions below.

Bro! They said D BANJ and some Govt officials diverted money. They mentioned DBANJ’s name but didn’t mention any govt officials.

Government officials are now “Unknown Fraud Men” UFM. 👍

@drpenking

D’Banj has been arrested by ICPC for diverting N-Power funds. He allegedly connived with some government officials, created ghost beneficiaries and paid the money into accounts which have been linked to him. N-power has to be the greatest fraud scheme to ever exist in Nigeria.

When you tell some celebrities to challenge bad governance, most won’t because they themselves are into shady deals with them, but are we really ready for this conversation? Disappointing that D’Banj is arrested by ICPC for diverting N-Power funds. Hope it turns out untrue.
DISTINGUISHED Everest

@novieverest
Just heard that Dbanj has been arrested for diverting money meant for N-Power. A supposed wealthy celebrity takes what belongs to unemployed people by introducing ghost workers.

I just hope this isn't true. So bad.

@Tutsy22

D’banj is accused of fraudulently diverting money earmarked for N-Power program. He colluded with some compromised govt officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of d scheme.The money meant for beneficiaries are paid to accounts that are allegedly linked to him!

@SirDavidBent

D'banj arrested for fraud? That's a bit surprising though. Why do some celebrities always go down this path? Even if music stopped paying at some point, is it now so bad that one would resort to diverting N-Power funds. Can't say I'm not  disappointed. I like this guy.

@iSlimfit

This news about D’banj and the N-Power allegations cannot be true.

@kofoshiomogeeko

This is one of those who won’t let the federal govt breathe… they call Nigeria a failure but they are the major problem … how can
@iamdbanj
 do this to us… so only you have been diverting N-power funds to your account since 2016… But they are quick to pass blame

@Tee_Classiquem1

It was alledged that Dbanj has been arrested and detained by the ICPC, the star was accused of fraudulently diverting hundreds of naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for N-Power project, a programme set up by the govt in 2016 to ease the rate of unemployment amongst youths

@KingTundednut
D’banj is accused of fraudulently diverting money earmarked for N-Power program. This news cannot be true !

@Osas_ThePlug

Dbanj can't divert over N100 million N-power funds without the help of top government officials. We need more names and faces of people connected to this and besides, we never heard of things like this when Osibanjo was in-charge of this program.

@Yemihazan

If that D'banj news is true, I hope Justice is duly served, N-power is just 30k, denying thousands or millions unemployed that little to stay afloat while being multi millionaire is really absurd .

@Theoladeledada

You pay 30,000 Naira for N-power hardworking people who are also graduates just because the country failed them to get good jobs and y’all still have the mind to divert the money and loot it. May it not be well with y’all and your household!!! Heartless b!gots.

@Nahme_King

One of these two will play out:

Either Dbanj spill on those he connived with in Nigeria APC government to divert N-Power funds.

Or

He walks free because the powers that connived with him goes all the way to  Nigeria's presidency.

Let's see how it plays out.

@morainvestme

This N-power thing really got me mad today. I know a guy living in Rwanda who collects 30k every month from the N-power stuff and still insult this government. We are just our problem
