Actress Biola Adebayo has spoken out against the increasing criticism celebrities receive for wearing the same outfits to different events.
In a recent statement, Adebayo questioned the expectation that public figures must always wear new clothes.
“Who made the law that it’s a crime to repeat my clothes? If I do not repeat them, how will you know I own them?” she asked, highlighting the pressure to constantly showcase new wardrobes.
She emphasised that traditional attire like Iro and Buba can be worn multiple times, and dresses, shoes, and bags should also be allowed to be repeated without judgment.
Adebayo expressed frustration with social media-driven vanity, noting that online comments often unfairly criticize celebrities for rewearing outfits.
“Social media is not your reality,” she said.
Despite her personal disinterest in parties, Adebayo revealed she attends numerous events out of respect and professional obligations. She urged fans to consider the pressures of her position and be more thoughtful in online commentary.
Concluding her statement, the actress encouraged support for her upcoming projects, including her next movie, while affirming she will continue to wear clothes she personally purchased without apology.
