Suspected gunmen on Thursday night k!lled Udeh Ijachi, a former caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State.
Ijachi, popularly known as “Honourable Ukpem,” was reportedly shot de@d by unidentified attackers in a sudden assault that has left residents of Otukpo in shock.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened in front of Okabido Hotel, where the former council boss was allegedly ambushed. According to accounts from the scene, the assailants opened fire on him before escaping.
The gunshots triggered panic in the area, as residents and passers-by rushed out moments later to see what had happened. Many described the attack as shocking, saying the area was thrown into confusion after the shooting.
As of the time of this report, security authorities had not released any official statement regarding the k!lling. However, investigations are expected to begin to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and track down those responsible.
Ijachi had previously served as caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area and was well known in political and community circles within the state.
The reason behind the attack remains unknown.
Meanwhile, residents have urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and strengthen security in the area to prevent similar occurrences.
