Environmental and human rights activist Ann Kio Briggs, who hails from Rivers State, has issued a caution to President Bola Tinubu regarding the political situation unfolding in the state, warning that it could ultimately backfire on him.

This comes after Governor Sim Fubara announced his withdrawal from the APC governorship primary, stating that despite the difficulty of the decision, he would throw his support behind whichever candidate the party produces. Fellow APC aspirant Tonye Cole had earlier made the same call.

Speaking on Channels Television, Briggs accused the President of allowing his minister, Nyesom Wike, to effectively operate as an unchecked authority over Rivers State.

She stressed that the political maneuvering currently taking place in the state serves neither the interests of Rivers people nor those of the APC or the President himself.

She further clarified that any confusion surrounding the situation is not of the people's making, but rather stems from the APC's actions and the level of outside interference the President has permitted in the state's affairs.
