The family of late Nollywood actor and comedian John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has opened up about the hardship they have endured since his passing.
During a recent visit by content creator King Mitchy, the family revealed that Mr Ibu's only daughter and two sons have been forced to drop out of school owing to their dire financial circumstances.
They also disclosed that the household has been without electricity and running water for weeks, as they are unable to meet the bills.
The children's mother painted a grim picture of their daily reality, recounting how the family had resorted to fetching water from a well, had gone without power for two months following a disconnection, and were left scrambling each night in search of places to charge their phones.
Mr Ibu's daughter, in an emotional appeal to Nigerians, praised her mother's sacrifices in keeping the family afloat.
"I want to thank God for my mom, she tried everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees, make us happy.
So Nigerians, if you were in the industry with my dad, you're seeing us now, come and meet us," she pleaded.
The children's mother also disclosed, while visibly fighting back tears, that the school had recently reached out over the children's outstanding fees.
Mr Ibu underwent a leg amputation in November 2023 following an illness that necessitated seven surgeries.
He subsequently died in Lagos on 2 March 2024 at the age of 62 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
