Two Feared Dead After Suspected Laughing Gas Incident in Ogun

According to reports, two people who were suspected of being students at the Ogun State-owned Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, passed away after allegedly ingesting "laughing gas," and two more people were admitted to the hospital in Isara-Remo, Ogun State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday at Oke-Ola Phase II, Isara-Remo, where four young persons allegedly consumed the substance, said to be a hard drug commonly abused by some youths in the area.

A resident of the community, speaking on condition of anonymity on Thursday, said the victims had allegedly taken what they called "laughing gas," with fatal results.

According to the resident, the incident happened on Tuesday, and it was learnt that the students involved were taking the substance, which led to the d£ath of two of them, while two others were rushed to hospital.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident but said the police were yet to ascertain whether the deceased were indeed.

Babaseyi disclosed that the command is investigating a suspected drug-related incident at Oke-Ola Phase II, Isara-Remo, where two persons were found dead and two others hospitalised after allegedly taking hard drugs.

He added that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue for autopsy, while the survivors are currently receiving medical treatment, with investigations continuing to establish what exactly happened.

The police spokesperson also warned members of the public against substance abuse, urging them to steer clear of illicit drugs.

Efforts to get a reaction from the management of Gateway ICT Polytechnic were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report, as repeated calls to the institution's Public Relations Officer, Folorunso Adedayo, went unanswered, while a WhatsApp message sent to her had not been responded to.
