Nigerian Man Jailed After Brutal Knife Attack on Woman

A 32-year-old Nigerian national has been handed a sentence of seven and a half years imprisonment for attempting to m***der a woman in Leith, Edinburgh, following his guilty plea to the violent off ence.

The sentencing took place at the High Court in Glasgow.

The attack occurred on the morning of November 11, 2025, in the Duke Street area when the individual approached a 30-year-old woman with whom he was acquainted and inflicted multiple st@b wounds to her head and body using a knife.

Bystanders intervened before emergency responders arrived, restraining the perpetrator until police officers took him into custody.

The victim was hospitalised, treated for her injuries, and subsequently discharged.

A detective involved in the investigation described the att@ck as particularly distressing and extended sympathy to the victim and her family.

He highlighted the crucial role played by members of the public who came to the woman's assistance, noting that their swift intervention likely proved instrumental in preventing a fatal outcome.

He stressed that preventing violence against women and girls remains a core focus for law enforcement, emphasising that w€apons and violent conduct are incompatible with community safety standards and will not be tolerated.

An online news report indicated that the victim sustained at least 12 separate injuries during the assault, which occurred in front of their daughter.

The case follows a previous conviction from February 2026, when a UK court sentenced a 40-year-old Nigerian national to life imprisonment for murdering his 23-year-old former girlfriend in Nottingham, England.
