The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has cautioned the public against counterfeit and artificially-generated employment letters being spread under the commission's name.

The NUPRC also warned citizens against swindlers allegedly extorting money from the public by falsely claiming to facilitate job placements at the organisation.

A statement released by the commission's Head of Media and Corporate Communications on Tuesday disclosed that the NUPRC had received multiple reports of fraudulent employment letters attributed to individuals with no connection to the organisation.

Criminal actors have also been obtaining money from unsuspecting citizens by misrepresenting their ability to arrange employment opportunities within the commission.

The suspected fraudsters' conduct has been forwarded to law enforcement for investigation.

The commission stressed that the public should exercise diligence in verifying any employment-related communications before acting on them or making financial commitments.

The NUPRC explicitly stated that no recruitment drive is currently underway.

Should the commission undertake recruitment in the future, the process will adhere strictly to applicable legislation and official government protocols.

Job applicants and the general public are urged to be cautious of anyone requesting payment or presenting dubious hiring documentation allegedly originating from the commission.
