Three police officers have been killed by suspected kidnappers at Rumuokoro area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday, November 24.
The three killed police officers were serving as escorts to the managing director of an oil company who was also abducted.
The suspected kidnappers opened fire on the convoy of the managing director, killing his police escorts and then abducted him. The police officers were in a Hilux vehicle when their attackers opened fire.
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen blocked the vehicle in which the top oil worker was in before they rained bullets on the other one which conveyed the deceased police officers.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said a full-scale investigation has been launched.
“Yes, it is true that three policemen were killed. It is very unfortunate. They were providing escort for the oil company workers when the incident happened. But we are on it and an investigation has been launched immediately into the incident with a view to apprehend the suspects,” she said
