Nigerian singer, Peter Obaje aka Benue Boy has made a public outcry.
He claimed that the Nigerian music industry is now a cartel business.
According to him, it is now difficult for artists who do not associate with any confraternity to succeed in the music industry.
The ‘Ameriya’ crooner made the claims in a podcast, Encounter with Chris J.
Benue Boy said, “The challenges I see in the music industry, I think people see this modern industry as a cartel kind of thing. That is, if you don’t belong to a confraternity or group, you cannot scale through to the next level.
“A politician once sponsored my trip to Ghana. Someone wanted to sign me in there but there were clauses attached to the deal. And they told me that if I didn’t agree to the clauses, they wouldn’t sign me. And I didn’t want to do something that would take me away from my reality.
“Somebody offered me a deal of $29,000 in Ghana but I rejected it because it was gonna sink my life.
“I think a cartel is controlling the music industry and this is not helping the young ones,” he said.
